G6 Import Criteria for Individual Machinery

G6.1 The Age of Individual Machinery

According to the definition of Decision 18, the age of the machinery is calculated by the
formula: Year of import – Year of manufacturing.

The year in “Year of import” means the year of the individual machinery arriving at a
port of Vietnam. Enterprise should be careful about the exporting schedule. If
10-year-old machinery at the time of being inspected would arrive at a port in Vietnam
in the following year, the age would be calculated as exceeding 10 years regardless of

arriving month.

In the case that the age of machinery is over 10 years, Enterprise should check first if the

machinery is in the list of the specific field enclosed with Decision 18. The specific field
provides the extended age limit for the eighteen HS codes.

Machinery that over 10 years and not in the list of the specific fields should be inspected
by Article 9 of Decision 18.

G6.2 The Standards for Individual Machinery

Machinery that must have certifications for compulsory standards by Vietnam or Inter
national should be certified by mandatory specifications or minimum requirements.

If it needs a certificate under the Vietnamese standards, it is advised to consult with the
Vietnamese standards and certification organizations such as STAMEQ or QUACERT.

ISO certificates are useful alternatives for the certifications of Vietnam, G7 countries,

and Korea related to the fields of safety, energy-saving, and environmental. Because the
criteria countries under Decision 18 have the very high harmonized rate of their standards
with ISO. The ISO certificates that many Enterprise have for the exportation of their
machinery are 9001, 14001, 50001, 45001, etc. ISO 45001 replaced OHSAS 18001 for
Occupational Health and Safety in 2018.
