Introduction Dear reader, I truly hope year 2014 has been fruitful and meaningful for all of you. This year, with constant love and support from our valued clients and earnest effort of our staff, we KNTOTAL were able to provide services more mature and secure than ever before. And that is how everything set in motion for TOTALINSIGHT.
Upon endless requests from our valued clients and partners to commemorate many of our successes together, TOTALINSIGHT was created to be an annual-report type of magazine that narrates the significant footsteps taken by KNTOTAL over a year, covering in-depth information on and 1st person point of view from the inside of the celebrated successes. It will certainly provide opportunities for us to know each other better, further strengthening of our trustful relationship. This is the very first issue of TOTALINSIGHT. In this issue, you will find successful project that covered distance close to
half the circumference of the earth, cargo with extraordinary dimensions, triumphant completion of project through meeting complex conditions presented by our clients, news about our new, very capable recruit and many more. 01 I hope you will enjoy Thank you very much. KIM KYUNG HEE CEO The prolonged discussion since the second half of year 2013 was coming to an end with agreement to survey the local route by end of the year. The subject was our memorable Press Machinery Transport Project. The final place of delivery was in Avtovas, Russia, located 9900 nautical miles away from Korea. Together
with necessary documentation for all transshipments and tariffs of the transport, we had to continuously execute inland, ocean, inland waterway then inland transports from Pyoungtaek port in Korea to reach the final destination in Avtovas; being continuously alert and maintaining concentration was the core value necessary to successfully complete the project. We received approval from our client to handle the entire transport project in January 2014. After surveying the whole transport route from Istanbul, Turkey to Avtovas GM motor site for the whole month of February, we went on to obtain
all the contracts, permits and their requirements demanded by every procedure included in the project. Our efforts paid off and we were able to complete the preparation process in time for commencement of the project in May. For the first stage of our transport ---loading at Pyoungtaek port--- we hired a lady of DWT 30,000mt, crane capacity 320mt and 640mt combined to call on May 10th and in-land transport from the jobsite also proceeded according to the lady’s schedule. Because the port was congested for a day or two at the end of every month, we consistently coordinated with the ship-owner
to be able to call the lady at Pyoungtaek port 20 days before the commencement of loading procedure in order to prevent any delay. The deliberate planning resulted in the lady satisfactorily calling at Pyoungtaek port at 0500hours on May 12th and all cargoes were ready to be lifted by that time. So the loading procedure commenced at 0800hours on the day of arrival completed at 1700hours on the May 14th. Then our lady sailed on to the next destination, Derince port, Turkey. After 40 days of voyage, the shipment 9900 nautical miles, approximately 20,000kms, is only as a step away from reaching
half of the circumference of the earth ---distance literally meaning around the world. Then our lady sailed on to the next destination, Derince port, Turkey. After 40 days of voyage, the shipment arrived at Derince port on June 23rd to be immediately transferred to two units 9900 nautical miles, approximately 20,000kms, is only as a step away from reaching half of the circumference of the earth ---distance literally meaning around the world. 9900 Nautical Miles 02 arrived at Derince port on June 23rd to be immediately transferred to two
units of River vessels that had been waiting for the mother vessel; the transshipment completed on 27th. Even though demurrage for the daughter vessels’ wait over 7 days piled up, we still made fast progression of the transshipment procedure, proved by the fact that as compared to the minutes of entire transport plan, there was still plenty of time remaining. Timely aspect of our project suggested that our 2nd stage was off to a successful start. After waiting for 2 days at Rostov port ---the gateway to Volga River---, the two daughter vessels that departed from Derince port on 28th started
their voyage to Tolyatti River port which covered 1,200 kilometers and passing of 24 gateways. The shipment arrived at Tolyatti River port on 10th of July, exactly 58 whole days after departure from Korea. At the point of departure from Pyungtaek port, completion of construction of the access road to Factory was confirmatively contracted to have been completed by the time cargoes arrive, but we only arrived to find clay road where the supposed pavement was to be laid. Calculations and stimulations only confirmed that continuation from that point at during that time meant exposing the cargoes
to great danger. Hence decision was made to resume the procedure in October and our staff returned to Korea for the mean time. In mid October, our staff returned to the location where the transport would resume and found the access road finally paved. Though there were some spots in unsatisfactory condition and temperature during early morning and night dropped low to between 4 to 15 Celsius, technical evaluation assured that the transportation was not to be risked as long as cautiously performed. So we eventually concluded the last stage of our project.. This marks the celebratory completion
of our project that lasted over an extended period of time ---it took up three out of four seasons of a year! It was a great opportunity to remind ourselves the importance of high-level of concentration and patience for us to maintain the flow of transport and safety of subject shipment that transform difficult projects into victories Max. 207mt 4,319 cbm For Tolyatti, Russia Last June 20th, Dubai-based ship-owner contacted us asking if we could carry out a project from Far-East Region to Persian Gulf area in time for the first sail of a new lady which they had currently built in China. The
subject lady ---Multi purposed vessel with DWT 17,500mt, 3X30MTON CRANES, 2HO/2HA---was expected to call at Korean port on July 25th with give-and-take 10 days of valid period. Even though the time allowance was quite hectic to load the sufficient amount, we knew that it was worth every bit of our effort. Upon our judgment that minimizing time consumption could only be achieved by face-to-face counseling with clients that would derive an immediate decision, we started to contact and directly meet with our partners and clients rather than the conventional over-the-phone type of networking.
Meanwhile, we were informed by a long-valued client about their shipment which included a waste heat boiler with approximate weight of 300mt being manufactured nearby Pyoungtaek port and expected to complete its production around July. This client, with whom we had built a faithful relationship through many successful projects, showed their interest in the lady and her schedule, but expressed difficulty for she was not equipped with heavy cranes so they requested us to make an alternative proposal that would resolve the problem. Following their request, we made another proposal of bringing a
floating crane with SWL of 800mt from Busan Port in time for the arrival of mother vessel and dispatching two shore cranes with SWL of 400mt and 500mt to perform the unloading procedure at port of discharge. Our client gladly responded to our proposal with instant approval. Bear in mind that loading heavy-weight cargoes weighing more than 400t with two shore cranes requires extreme precision and more than years of experience and expertise; it substantiates the utmost trust between KNTOTAL and our client built over a very long time. On her first-ever voyage, our subject lady safely delivered
the cargo to port of discharge. The goods were so delivered to final destination safe and sound and our lady who just completed her very-first sail also returned to the owner all good. July 24th Max. 281mt 6,212cbm First Sail of a New Lady 03 Not all the project allows ample time for preparation. In fact, more than half the cases prove to be otherwise. For projects with hectic schedule, successful completion can only be achieved by high level of precision and networking at high-speed; qualities that can only be obtained through experience and expertise over many year. July of year 2014
commemorates our successful transportation of a cylindrical instrument air receiver weighing 140mt to Jebel Ali, UAE. While designing the transport, our client presented two conditions; first was the mother vessel to be equipped with heavy crane to not require usage of additional crane and the second condition stated that the lady calls at Gunsan port, a capable port closest to the factory to minimize the overall logistics cost. Though satisfying the fore-mentioned conditions was definitely possible, we knew it would not be easy to succeed because there was less than a month of time allowance
between the date of r
