The Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) belongs to a member of the Enterovirus genus, which are small single-stranded RNA
viruses. CVB3 is a human pathogen associated with serious diseases such as myocarditis, dilated cardiomyopathy
and pancreatitis. However, Myocarditis, myocarditis caused by coxsackie virus B3 infection, there is no effective
preventive treatment. In this study, cells studied the energy metabolism process when CVB3 is infected with Hela
to find the therapeutic potential of CVB3 infection. Previous studies have shown that viruses regulate mitochondria
to cause apoptosis. Therefore, we studied mitochondria in terms of energy metabolism As a result, mitochondrial
membrane potential (MMP) of Hela cells infected with CVB3 was lowered, and mitochondrial mass increased. In
addition, glycolysis is used as the main energy metabolic process, and when a glycolysis inhibitor is used, the
amount of virus decreases. Taken together, our results are the first evidence that the CVB3 virus uses that energy
as a major energy metabolism. In addition, this means that glycolysis-inhibiting drugs can be used as treatments
for the CVB3 virus.
