Surface modification of biomedical silicone with polymeric
drug depots and polyelectrolyte multi-layer coating

Medical device-related infections become a common reason for hospitalization. Biofilm formed on the medical
devices allows bacteria to resist against antibiotics and causes severe infections both locally and systemically. So,
we aimed at developing a versatile method that utilizes the bio-inspired coating of antibiotics loaded PLGA
microspheres (MS) and polyelectrolyte multilayers, quaternary ammonium salt chitosan (HTCC) and polyacrylic acid
(PAA), onto silicone material for effective prevention of biofilm formation via multiple protection mechanisms.
