DIRECTOR’S GREETING 인사말 조 효 식 우양미술관 관장 우양미술관은 인간의 고유한 ‘신체(몸)’를 통해 능동적으로 예술을 지각하고 체험하는《바디 아티비티 Bodily ARTivity》展을 선보입니다. 예술계에서 활발한 현대미술 작품활동을 펼치는 예술가 4팀(아리송, 정진경, 홍원표, STUDIO 1750)은 각자의 독특한 시선과 사유, 상상력을 다양한 매체로 시각화합니다. 이들의 작품은 관람객의 적극적인 참여를 유도함으로써 비로소 작 품이 완성되며, 이는 예술이 지닌 가치와 가능성을 더욱 확장하기 위한 시도입니다. 장기화된 팬데믹으로 인해 제한된 일 상에서 신체(몸)를 잠시나마 해방하고, 작품과 마주하여 우리가 지닌 감각을 일깨우고 다중적 감각을 자극하는 기회가 되길 바랍니다. 우양미술관은 향후에도 능동적으로 예술세계를 지각하는데 적극적인 매개자로서의 역할을 수행하겠습니다. 아울러 본 전시에 작품을 출품해주신 작가들과 관계자들께 감사의 마음을 전합니다. 감사합니다. proud to present “Bodily ARTivity,” an exhibition that allows the viewer to proactively perceive and experience art through their own body. The four teams of artists (ARISONG, Jin Kyung Chong, Won Pyo Hong and STUDIO 1750) involved in the exhibition, all of whom are actively producing works of contemporary art, are known for their unconventional visualizations of their thoughts, perspectives, and imaginations. Their creations are completed only through visitors’ physical participation, which is an intentional attempt to expand the realm of artistic value and possibility. I hope “Bodily
ARTivity” provides some respite (even if only for a short time) from the body, which continues to be denied complete freedom of movement due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and multi-sensory stimulation, enhancing what visitors take away from the exhibition. The Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art will continue serving as a medium for all who wish to understand art as not a passive entity but something that is woven into the fabric of our lives. 우양미술관 학예실장 《바디 아티비티 Bodily ARTivity》展은 2021년 여름, 우양미술관에서 개최되었던 《감각의 숲》展의 연장선상에 서 기획되었습니다. 《감각의 숲》은 장기화된 팬데믹으로 제한되어온 인간의 감각을 회복하고 이를 통해 감각의 개별성과 인간의 정체성과의 관계에 대해 자문해보는 전시였다면, 본 전시 《바디 아티비티》는 아직 끝나지 않는 혼 란한 상황 속에서, 여전히 제한받고 있는 우리의 ‘신체(몸)’를 메타적으로 인지해 보는 것에서 시작합니다. 프랑스 철학자 모리스 메를로 퐁티(Maurice Merlean-Ponty)는 저서『지각의 현상학(Phénoménologie de la perception)』에서 ‘몸의 현상학’을 통해 모든 인식의 근원인 ‘몸’의 주체성에 주목하였습니다. 이는 인간의 행위가 원 초적 단계인 개인의 고유한 ‘신체(몸)’에서 출발하여 몸짓에 의한 전이를 통해 예술과 직접적인 소통이 가능하게 된다 고 하였습니다. 즉, 감각하는 행위의 원초적 매개인 ‘몸’은 지각의 주체이자 세계 속에서 타자와 소통하는 관계의 주 체로 확장되어 인지할 때 예술 작품과의 진솔한 관계 맺기가 가능할 것입니다. 본 전시는 ‘아트와 행위’를
예술적으로 풀어낸 예술가 4팀(아리송, 정진경, 홍원표, STUDIO 1750)의 작업을 통 해 “객관적 세계의 이면에 체험된 세계”에 대한 다양한 방식들을 선보입니다. 개인이 지닌 신체감각(오감)과 움직임 에 집중을 유도함으로써 주어진 자극과 예술적 효과에 반응하고 개인의 감각경험을 확장하며 예술적 상상력을 마음 껏 발산할 수 있도록 합니다. 창의적 예술 현장에서 어떠한 의미 해석이나 목적을 넘어서 자유와 유희를 추구하는 활 동(activity)을 통해 새로운 자극을 경험하는 계기가 되기를 기대합니다. Ji Hyang Park Chief Curator, Wooyang Museum of contemporary Art “Bodily ARTivity” is a follow-up exhibition to “Forest of Sense,” which was hosted by the Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art in the summer of 2021. While “Forest of Sense” aimed to restore the full range of human perception (which had been limited by
the prolonged nature of the COVID-19 pandemic) and use it as the basis for exploring the relationship between the individuality of sensation and human identity, “Bodily ARTivity” begins from a meta- perception of the body, which remains subject to many restrictions amid a global situation that continues to be chaotic and unpredictable. In his book Phénoménologie de la perception, French philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty points to the agency of the human body, which is the source of all perception. He argued that we can communicate directly with art through the body, the most basic stage of
human action, by transferring our thoughts into our actions. In other words, it is only when the body—the primitive medium of the act of perception—is given the role of agent of not only perception but also meaningful relationships with others that we can forge genuine relationships with works of art. Through the creations of four teams of artists (ARISONG, Jin Kyung Chong, Won Pyo Hong and STUDIO 1750) on art and activity, this exhibition presents interpretations of and responses to “the world we experience on the flipside of the objective world.” It also encourages viewers to concentrate not

Video, Dimension variable 2019 Installation View Installation View Installation View Installation View 아리송(이혜로, 정승민, 한지윤)은 다양한 디지털 미디어 기술을 매체로 관람객의 체험을 자연스럽 게 작품에 녹여내는 미디어아트 그룹이다. 아리송은 자연, 음식, 동물 등 우리 주변에 존재하는 수많은 소재들과 장르를 매개로, 그동안 일상에서 익숙해져 버린 대상들을 탐색하여 새로운 시각과 확장된 감각을 경험하는 이상적인 공간을 선보인다. <거인피자>는 윌리엄 스타이그의 동화「아빠랑 함께 피자놀이」에서 영감을 받았다. 손으로 잡히 는 일반적인 피자가 아닌, 거대한 천으로 제작된 피자 도우 위에 쿠션, 타올, 러그, 걸레, 바가지 등 다 양한 사물들을 부지런히 탐색하여 토핑으로 올려볼 수 있다. 토마토가 된 빨간 바가지, 치즈가 된 대걸 레, 베이컨이 된 분홍 타올 등 자유롭게 나만의 피자를 완성시킨다. 또한 관람객은 직접 피자 토핑 의 일부가 되어 옥수수 글러브를 낀 채 앉아보거나 새우쿠션을 베게 삼아 누워 볼 수 있다. 이러한 행위는 천장 카메라를 통해 실시간 벽면에 투사되며,
오븐에서 갓 나온 피자처럼 사진으로 출력되어 소장할 수 있다. <발걸음 산책>은 우양미술관에서 처음 공개된 신작으로 자연친화적인 산책길이 펼쳐진다. 자연재 료로 조성된 산책길 위에서 다양한 자연리듬에 집중하며, 발소리에 맞춰 공명하는 재료의 물성을 귀로 느끼게 된다. 본인의 호흡과 발소리, 움직임 등 시각에서 청각으로 확장되는 <발걸음 산책>은 이전에 경험하지 못했던 색다른 산책길을 제공한다. <자연의 길>은 사계절이 흘러가는 일련의 시간 변화를 담아낸 작품이다. 시시각각 변화하는 계절 의 현상과 빛깔 등 자연의 움직임을 나열한 스트랩 패브릭 사이사이를 거닐며, 작품속에서 펼쳐지는 조화로운 자연세계의 소리와 함께 자연의 순리를 비행한다. 천장에서 늘어져있는 스트랩 패브릭은 대 지에서 탄생한 풀이 하늘로 날아가는 모습을 표현한 것이다. 이는 생명의 탄생부터 소멸까지의 시간의 흐름을 통해 생명체가 지닌 압도감을 보여준다. <초록물결 초록숲>은 정원 일의 보람을 느끼며 다양한 색채나 질감을 가진 재료를 통해 푸르른 숲을 이루는 작품이다. 관람객은 정원사가 되어 원하는 식물(재료)를 선택하고 전시공간에 펼쳐진 밭 고랑(매쉬 기둥)에 코바늘을 사용하여 한 땀 한 땀
심다보면 정원일을 하는 즐거움과 자연에서 오는 평화로움을 느끼게 된다. 전시 기간 동안 채워질 초록 물결의 초록숲은 관람객과 작가뿐만 아니라 관 람객과 관람객을 이어주는 매개체로 존재한다. ARISONG(Hye Ro Lee, Seung Min Chung, and Ji Yun Han) is a media art group that uses digital media technologies to create works that reflect visitors’ interactions with them. It uses familiar genres and subjects, such as nature, food, and animals, as mediums for exploring things in our lives that we’ve lost interest in and to create “ideal spaces” for broadening the scope of our sensory experiences. Giant Pizza was inspired by the children’s book Pete’s a Pizza by William Steig. It is not a
normal-sized pizza: children can place everyday objects that look like toppings, including cushions, pink towels that look like strips of bacon, rugs, “cheese” mops, and even red plastic basin “tomatoes,” on a massive fabric pizza that takes up most of the floor. Visitors can also enjoy becoming a topping themselves by sitting on the dough while wearing corn gloves or lying down on the shrimp-shaped cushions. Visitors can see the outcomes of their actions through real-time projections on the wall captured by a ceiling-mounted camera (photos of the wall projections are printed out and
distributed on-site). Listening To Nature is an artwork that is being presented for the first time through the Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art. It is a “walking trail” made with eco-friendly materials that allows visitors to concentrate on nature’s many rhythms and hear the sounds made by the materials in time with one’s footsteps. Through Listening To Nature, you can enjoy the transformation of your breathing, footsteps, and other physical movements from visual to auditory experiences. The Color of Time is about seasonal changes over time. While walking alongside a wall of hanging fabric
strips, which represent leaves of grass flying upward and act as a “screen” that displays how nature changes over each of Korea’s four seasons (e.g. natural phenomena, colors), visitors have a multi-sensory experience of nature’s cycles. Through this artwork, visitors gain a sense of the overwhelming force of time, during which life forms are born and die. In Green Wave Green Weave, visitors can experience the satisfaction of gardening by creating a world of greenery using materials of diverse colors and textures. Visitors become gardeners, weaving the desired “plants” (materials) into the
“furrows” (mesh pillars) with a crochet hook. This process, although it does require a certain level of hand-eye coordination, enables visitors to experience the fun of gardening and the peace of mind that comes from being in nature. Installation View 정진경은 파랑새를 모티브로 동화적 연출을 통해 삶의 의미와 행복을 재인식시키는 작가이다. <치르치르와 미치르>, <The Blue Bird>는 모리스 마테를링크(Maurice Maeterlinck)의 희극『파랑새 The Blue Bird』(1909)를 기반으로 희망의 이야기를 풀어낸 것이다. 지저귀는 새 소리와 움직임이 결합 된 팝업북 형식의 작품 <치르치르와 미치르>는 마치 연극 무대처럼 보이며, 치르치르와 미치르가 파랑 새를 찾아가는 여정을 떠올려 자신만의 파랑새를 찾아 나서는 주요 장면을 재해석하여 연출된 것이다. 이는 치르치르와 미치르의 집에 있던 지빠귀가 자신들이 그토록 찾아 헤맸던 파랑새임을 깨달은 것처 럼, 관람객들도 일상에서 파랑새를 찾을 수 있길 소망한 것이다. 영상 작품 <The Blue Bird>는 우리가 평소 잊고 살았던 소소한 행복과 희망은 멀리 존재하는 것이 아니라, 항상 우리 곁에 존재한다는 메시지를 담는다. 작가는 파랑새를 좇는 환상적인 여정에 관람객 이 함께하면서 잠시나마 바쁜 일상에서 벗어나 그동안 무심코 지나친 행복의 진정한 의미를 발견하기 위해 색다른 숲속으로 인도한다. Chong uses the blue bird as a motif—along with fairy tale-esque designs—to reawaken viewers to the meaning and joys of life. Chirchir and Michir and The Blue Bird are both stories of hope that are based on Maurice Maeterlinck’s 1909 play The Blue Bird. Chirchir and Michir is a pop-up book-like artwork that looks like the stage of a play. By blending the bird’s chirping and movements, it shows key scenes from the titular story in which Chirchir and Michir go on a journey in search of a blue bird, eventually discovering their own “blue bird”—their pet thrush. The artwork inspires visitors to
search for (and find) their own “blue birds” that exist within the scope of their daily routines. Chong’s The Blue Bird is a video that reminds us that the happiness and hope we seek, but have long since stopped expecting, are actually not very far away. NFT(Non Fungible Token) 2021 홍원표는 특유의 간결한 선으로 그려낸 캐릭터 ‘바라바빠(Barabapa)’로 자신만의 세계관을 구축한 다. 모두의 인생에 축제가 가득하길 바라는 마음으로 탄생한 ‘바라바빠’는 그의 즉흥적이고 자유로운 드로잉으로 전시장을 가득 채우고 있다. 바라바빠의 이야기는 현재의 삶 속에서 나와 너，우리 모두가 마주하는 순간 느끼는 감정을 표현하며 소중한 추억을 회상하게 한다. 그는 자신의 작업을 통해 관람 객 스스로의 삶에서 사소하지만 소중한 행복을 발견하여 감정을 표현하는 방식에 대해 생각하는 계기 가 되기를 바란다.
