Background Figure 1. microRNA analysis between the patients
We investigated whether microRNA expression with and without vascular recurrence
pattern can provide information about
neurological deterioration among acute ischemic
stroke patients.
Methods
• Between 2015 and 2020, acute ischemic stroke
patients who had been through mechanical
thrombectomy from Chung-Ang University
Hospital were included. After informed consent • Both microRNAs were positively correlated with

• The significantly altered microRNAs were
validated by quantitative real time polymerase Figure 2. Correlation analysis between microRNAs
chain reaction. and laboratory variables
• Correlation analysis was performed to study
relationship between significantly altered
microRNAs and laboratory variables.
• The derived microRNA was also evaluated from
the different cohort investigating cerebral
atherosclerosis with positron emission
tomography (PET).
• This study was reviewed and approved by the
institutional review board (C ).
Cohort 1: Thrombus analysis of ischemic stroke • The expression level of miR-93-5p from patient
(TAOIST: 78 patients) blood were positively correlated with amygdala
glucose uptake from 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET.
Cohort 2: Cerebral atherosclerosis research
with positron emission tomography Figure 3. Correlation analysis between miR-93-5p and
(CARPET: 70 patients) brain amygdala activity
Results
• Among 95 patients who received mechanical
thrombectomy, a total of 78 patients were
finally included in the study after excluding 9
patients without thrombus and 8 patients
without undetectable microRNAs.
• Recurrent vascular event was detected in 13
patients.
• Microarray analysis comparing 1088 microRNAs Conclusion
between the patients with and without • The expression signature of microRNAs from
recurrent vascular event and validation by RT- thrombus can provide prognostic information
