Hello, we are going to represent ‘culture tourism’. The biggest problem with Korean
tourism is the lack of specialized tourism products and the concentration of tourist
attractions due to the high dependence on shopping. As much as 67 percent of tourists
visit South Korea to go shopping, preferring duty-free shops. As a result, most tourists
travel to specific areas such as Seoul and Jeju. In this way, tourist attractions are
formed mainly in a major city, balanced development of the tourism industry has not
been achieved. This problem led to a decline in tourists, the number of tourists
decreased by 1.7million in three years. The chief cause of the result is an ordinary
tour course which is currently dominated by shopping. Therefore, the rate of
revisitation is low, because there isn't that much to see in South Korea. To summarize
again, tourism in South Korea is more difficult to attract foreign tourists because its
tourism policy and tourism infrastructure are focused on simple shopping than
developing new content. South Korea develops the tourism industry by focusing on
only a part of universal historical sites and shopping sites. As a result, various
historical sites and precious traditional cultures are left unattended all over the country.
Also, as Korean culture such as K-pop becomes famous worldwide, the government
is focusing on the development of the cultural content industry. Of course, the number
of tourists has indeed increased due to the Korean Wave, but the Korean Wave culture,
which takes advantage of the characteristics of Korea, is rapidly disappearing
according to the tastes of fans around the world. Thus, we have created a poster
depicting the current problems of the Korean tourism industry, where Korean culture
is disappearing. The Eiffel Tower in France, the Colosseum in Italy, hot spring in
Japan. When you think of each country, there is something unique regarding that
country. However, when foreigners think of Korea, will they come to mind that
contains our own culture? The pictures that fill the Taegeukgi in the poster are the
representative Korean shopping brands known to foreigners and the protagonists of
the K-pop. Korea's recognition of foreigners has risen, but as a result, Korea's unique
culture is disappearing. The national flag of Korea on the poster implies that if tourism
continues to present tourism that makes the unique culture of Korea extinguish,
eventually the country itself will become foreign, and someday its own culture and
characteristics will disappear without a trace. The public meaning of our poster is to
make sustainable tourism possible by providing a plan to preserve the culture and stop
tourism that makes Korean culture disappear. In the case of France, the tourism
powerhouse, the national policy that prioritizes the value of its own culture preserves
the national culture. Korea should also carry out such tourism. Therefore, tourism in
Korea must preserve its unique culture. Also, tourism needs to be changed to
harmonize the local characteristics of festivals and historical sites that can be enjoyed
only in South Korea with the shopping and Korean Wave-centered tourism.
