Opposites attract
Two artists with very different styles are
exhibiting side by side in the Borders this
autumn. Ron Lawson’s work is in a graphic
contemporary style, while Kirstie Cohen’s
landscapes (right) are traditional but with an
abstract twist. Both use the vistas of Scotland
as inspiration for their work: Lawson’s latest
looks at the Outer Hebrides, while Cohen’s
depict the wild mountain ranges and
seascapes of the Highlands. Sep Nov

German artist Thomas Demand comes to Glasgow this
autumn for a solo exhibition examining the phenomenon
of online image-sharing. The Dailies is a series within his
installation The Daily Show that looks at how image-taking
and image-sharing through social media have become an
everyday part of ordinary life. Some of these works have
been created specifically for the Common Guild space and
include a design for wallpaper. Sep –Dec .

Red balloon
Stretching from Upper Largo to Cellardyke, East
Neuk’s Open Studio trail is attracting new talent
across a diverse range of disciplines. There are the
trail favourites, such as artists Jill Calder and Carol
Paterson (pictured), along with newcomers like
Sydney Clare Checkland. If you follow the red
balloons along the way, you’ll discover that this
little corner of Fife is bursting with creativity.
