ART NEWS
Celtic connections
Late summer brings a new exhibition to East
Lothian’s Fidra Fine Art, in which Northern Irish
painter Neal Greig explores the landscapes of
Scotland – in particular, the west coast, islands and
the East Lothian coastline. Just as he did previously
with his rugged and unspoiled views of County
Donegal and the Atlantic coast, he has painted
these new works en plein air, and they are alive
with colour and atmosphere. Sep –Oct .

Sewn up
Edinburgh might be recovering from its annual Festival
madness, but the city’s Dovecot Studios continues to show
world-class woven textiles from its tapestry workshop. Cosmic
Spiral (below) was designed by the celebrated Scottish artist
Alan Davie and was woven by Douglas Grierson and David
Cochrane. It is on show throughout the autumn. There’s a
viewing gallery where visitors can see into the weaving floor
and get close to the action. www.dovecotstudios.com
Life and times
Celebrating the life and legacy of Scottish artist George Devlin,
the Scottish Gallery is showing a collection of works that he
completed shortly before his death in 2014. Regarded as one of the
finest British landscape painters of his time, Devlin, who used an
Impressionist style, is a highly collectible artist, and this Edinburgh
show will be the first opportunity to appreciate his remarkable
legacy. Sep –Oct . www.scottish-gallery.co.uk
HOME FRONT
Following an artist-in-residency programme in Singapore,
painter Ronnie Ford is back in Scotland for the opening of
his latest solo show on home turf. The Dunoon-born artist’s
‘texture-scapes’ have proven popular at art fairs in both
Singapore and Hong Kong, and his new collection, on show
at Edinburgh’s Torrance Gallery, is a vivid assortment of
new landscapes in his signature textural style. Colour plays
an important role for this seasoned artist too, with dramatic
hues bringing his vistas to life. Oct . www.ronnieford.com
