Background Figure 1. microRNA analysis between the patients
We investigated whether microRNA expression with and without vascular recurrence
  pattern can provide information about
  neurological deterioration among acute ischemic
  stroke patients.

  Methods
  • Between 2015 and 2020, acute ischemic stroke
patients who had been through mechanical
     thrombectomy from Chung-Ang University
Hospital were included. After informed consent • Both microRNAs were positively correlated with
we harvested thrombus at -70℃. The discharge NIHSS, e/e’ ratio and serum parathyroid
expression signature of microRNAs was hormone, and negatively associated with serum
evaluated by microarray analysis. vitamin D.
  • The significantly altered microRNAs were
validated by quantitative real time polymerase Figure 2. Correlation analysis between microRNAs
     chain reaction. and laboratory variables
  • Correlation analysis was performed to study
     relationship between significantly altered
     microRNAs and laboratory variables.
  • The derived microRNA was also evaluated from
     the different cohort investigating cerebral
     atherosclerosis with positron emission
     tomography (PET).
  • This study was reviewed and approved by the
     institutional review board (C ).

   Results
   • Among 95 patients who received mechanical
thrombectomy, a total of 78 patients were
finally included in the study after excluding 9
patients without thrombus and 8 patients
      without undetectable microRNAs.
   • Recurrent vascular event was detected in 13
      patients.
   • Microarray analysis comparing 1088 microRNAs Conclusion
between the patients with and without • The expression signature of microRNAs from

PCR showed that miR-93-5p was significantly among stroke patients. Future studies are
elevated among the patients with RVE. miR- warranted regarding the mechanistic link
