Lately, we saw a video of YouTuber “Grandma Park Mak-rye”. It was about how she
tried to order a hamburger with an unmanned kiosk in McDonald's and the title of this
video was 'A restaurant that is unavailable for Mak-rye'. Like the title, in the video,
she couldn't press the buttons of a tall kiosk and, since she didn’t know how to use it,
she received time-out signs several times. Moreover, the hamburger that she finally
ordered was not what she wanted. By watching this video, we became interested in
the problem of digital alienation that elderly people face in the age of automation.

Therefore, we investigated relative articles to find out the current status of this issue.
According to them, the level of digital information competency of the people aged
over 60 was five times lower than that of the young people. We thought the cause of
this problem is the lack of social care and education for the elderly to use digital
devices and online services, and we decided to create a poster to inform the digital
alienation of the elderly and insist that there should be an effort to solve problems.
This poster is representing the seniors lost in the digital society. In this poster, an old
man and woman are facing unmanned kiosks that are too tall for them to reach,
           hindering their path.
Also, logos of internet sites such as Netflix, YouTube, and Google and social network
applications like Facebook and Instagram are flowing in the air, making them
confused. These represent the psychological distance, inaccessibility that the elderly
feel about automated devices and digital society.
Besides, the man and woman holding each others’ hands without any help show that
elderly people have no choice but to depend on their community consists of
           themselves.

We expect that this poster can herald the seriousness of digital alienation that elderly
people are encountering in their daily life, and suggest that our society should respond
           sufficiently to the problem.

Elderly people should also have the opportunity to enjoy the intellectual properties of
a human being like digital devices and online services too. This poster is not trying to
say that we should reduce the usage of digital equipment for our convenience but
meaning that we should provide the opportunity for elderlies to merge in current
society by receiving education and getting help from youths and society.
