DESIGN NEWS
All white
Created by British industrial designer Sebastian Bergne, the Coast
bench is a really slick, simple seating solution that works both
indoors and out. We love the clean lines of the white option, but,
with 22 colours to consider, we reckon you’ll struggle to opt for
just one. www.serralunga.com
Spin cycle
To celebrate Britain’s obsession with cycling, the
Design Museum’s upcoming exhibition looks at bikes and
the people behind them. There is a focus on beautiful bikes
and famous cyclists, a collection of films and photography
devoted to the sport, and an examination of the changing
face of cycling and its many subcultures. There’s a cycle
café, bike installations and lots of public events. On yer
bike! Nov June www.designmuseum.org
WOOD WORKS
Experimenting with dyeing wood instead of painting it has given this bench, by Raw Edges, an impressive new look – so much so
that it was shortlisted for this year’s Wood Awards. The designers tried more than 20 different varieties of timber before settling
on jelutong as the one that best absorbed the colour. Their designs are different to marquetry or veneer, and the wood is domed to
show that the patterns run right through it. www.woodawards.com
BEST IN SHOW
Northmodern brings together all the latest design
developments from Scandinavia. The biannual
exhibition in Copenhagen launched a range of new
products, all with a Scandi twist, including Muuto’s
new Push coffee pot (pictured), created by Danish
designer Mette Duedahl. We love the vessel’s pared-
back stone body and simple beech knob. It has been
made for use with pressed coffee and is the epitome
of cool, contemporary design. www.northmodern.com
