“A-Maze-ing” is the third exhibition in a series, continuing from ʻForest of Sense’ () and ʻBodily ARTivity’
(), that was borne from the desire to reawaken everyday human elements that have been limited and

curtailed by the protracted pandemic. The latest installment has been planned with the particular aim of
building upon the dialogue that started with the first exhibition and conveying new perspectives on space as

the relationship between humans and structures.

In 『La production de l’espace』the French philosopher Henri Lefebvre refutes the conventional understanding
                                                    ,
that living bodies reside within spaces. The philosopher argues, instead, that living bodies occupy spaces,
forming and defining spaces in the process, and that spaces so formed continue to evolve, renew, and change
rather than staying the same for eternity. Lefebvre argues that the representational space where such acts of

creation and re-creation take place actively and consciously is the artistic space. Likewise, an art museum is an
artistic space because it is where individuals actively recognize, experience, imagine, and reproduce their
surroundings through their bodily movements and sensations.

This exhibition presents the representational spaces of six teams of artists—Junghyun Park, Jungyoon Lee,

Hyeryun Jung, Project Group YUP, EASThug, and EVERYWARE—who modify and re-create the given spaces in
their own ways. Park reveals new perspectives by deliberately interfering with visitors’ movements. Lee
introduces variations of the fixed roles of artworks and viewers inside a museum. Jung presents a space

drawing that reshapes the outer appearance of Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art. Project Group YUP
demonstrates space’s potential for change and reconfiguration through distortion. EASThug invites audiences

to experience synesthetic space combined with lights, sounds and vibration. EVERYWARE calls on viewers to
question the boundary between the real world and the virtual one with its augmented-reality (AR) app.

The synergy generated by the encounter between these representational spaces and visitors’ experiences
blurs the limits of the physical space, raising the infinite potential for spatial re-creation instead. It is our hope
that, by experiencing the new creations and alterations of spaces as active participants, you will hone your

sensitivity to new and positive turning points in your life at a time when we are all about to walk out of the
                         tunnel of the pandemic.
